Light

“When the world seems dark, be the light.”

Evening in Mongolia. Mongolia, somewhere outside of Ulaanbaatar

Many wise people have shared this sentiment in many wise ways. Sometimes it can be hard to find light within ourselves, but I believe light can be found if we share.

The Locked Door

The locked door,

Day after day past it I go,

What lies inside?

I never shall know.

The locked door,

Who holds the key?

No one really knows,

But it is not me.

Contemplations of Autumn

I watch as multi-colored leaves float away from their trees and towards the ground. Like the bright leaves caught by the warm autumn breeze, thoughts fill my head. Memories of experiences from earlier in the year as well as hopes and dreams for the coming months. Moments both sweet and sorrowful mingling with thoughts of special foods, family, and all the comforts the upcoming season brings. All a soothing moment of tranquility before I hurry once more on my way.

Beauty from Chaos

All through the night, icy winds blew. Snow was cast to the ground then whisked back into the air; gales stripped the world of its warmth. Inside the house, lights flickered as forces of nature riotously clashed outside.

Sometime around dawn, the riot stopped. The wind blew itself away, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. The morning sun shone brightly on the pebbly ice and snow covered landscape. In the chaos of nature a beautiful scene was created.

In the Bleak Midwinter…

Sometimes, when it is a sad and cold winter day, it is good to spend time with one’s pets. DSC07173-b

Rainy- Day Ridiculousness

Expectation when going outside in the rain to look for your cats and feed the rabbits: heroically rescuing the three cold, wet, and scared felines and coming back inside dry because, you know, you are the one wearing a rain-proof jacket.

Reality: Come inside looking like a drowned rat you’re so wet, meanwhile the cats, one of whom was out in the middle of a field during the worst of the rain, are perfectly content with life and as dry as if they just hoped out of a dryer.

The inherent dangers and complete stupidity of standing in lightning-filled rain looking for a cat were apparent, it was a thought that did pass through the mind. However, it could not compete with an image of a soaked and shivering grey and white tabby crouching, terrified somewhere in a field, and was consequently ignored. Unfortunately the mind  was not the most astute in this moment, leaving the savior soaked, while the cat remained safe and dry in its hiding place.

Considering Cats

I can understand how cats can be perceived as malevolent or evil.

I think they are just deeply mysterious.

A Quilt

She soothes the troubled heart with her warm embrace. She cares for you when you are sick and need to rest. She protects you when the world is cold and unwelcoming. She is the faithful friend who wipes away your tears. She tells the stories of those who have come before. The quilt made with care, reminds you of times and people that although gone, will live forever in your memory.
